Atlanta, Ga.--George Mason University junior Tom Koucheravy (Fairfax, Va.) placed 12th in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga. on Mar. 25.
Koucheravy swam the event in a time of 15:01.36 and placed 12th out of 31 swimmers. Sebastien Rouault of Georgia won the event after he registered a time of 14:29. 43.
On Mar. 24, Koucheravy finished 14th in the 500-yard freestyle as he swam the finals in a time of 4:21.78, right behind Chris Knaute of Air Force (4:20.83). The Fairfax native registered a trial time of 4:21.01 and was the final qualifier to advance as only the top-16 swimmers continue competition.
Koucheravy registered an NCAA `A-Cut' time in the 1,650 free of 15:05.35 in the final day of the CAA Championships in Fairfax (Feb. 25), which was a new pool, team, CAA Meet and a CAA top performance record.
Throughout the year, Koucheravy has earned numerous honors for his efforts in the pool, including being named CAA Male Swimmer of the Championships for the second year in a row. Koucheravy was also featured in Sports Illustrated's `Faces in the Crowd' (Jan. 9) and was named CAA Male Swimmer of the Week two times during the 2005-06 campaign (Dec. 7, 2005, Nov. 22, 2005).
