Box Score

FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason (11-14, 6-6 CAA) erased an early five-run deficit on Sunday afternoon to defeat Towson (7-17, 1-8 CAA) by a final score of 7-6 to sweep a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series at Spuhler Field.

The Tigers scored five runs in the first two innings to build an early lead. After plating a single run in the top of the first, Towson scored four runs in the second inning on two long balls. Third baseman Hans Falkenhan hit a solo blast over the right field wall and later in the inning, shortstop Brian Conley hit a three-run home run to center field.

Mason struck back in the bottom of the third on a home run of its own, by center fielder Robby Jacobsen, a two-run shot, to cut the deficit to three runs. The Patriots scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take their first lead of the ballgame, 6-5, and tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth to take a two-run lead.

After going scoreless for five innings, the Tigers struck back with a single run in the top of the eighth to cut the Patriots' lead to a single run. Towson would get no closer; however, as freshman reliever Jordan Flasher pitched the final 1 2/3 innings of the ballgame to nail down the first save of his career.

Despite the rough start, right-hander Dan Jaycox picked up the win to improve to 2-1 on the season. Starter Jon Dupski was charged with the loss for Towson to fall to 0-1.

George Mason's next game is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28 at 2:30 p.m. against Navy at Spuhler Field.
