RADFORD, Va. -George Mason edged Radford 4-3 this evening from Virginia Tech's Burrows-Burleson Tennis center. This was the conclusion of a match that started yesterday at RU's Dedmon Center Courts. The Patriots improve to 5-9, while the Highlanders fall to 7-8.
Radford gained the first point, winning in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 team of Downs/Noldin from Radford defeated Dektas/Moscato, 8-3, while the No. 3 team Van Zandt/Wooten lost 8-1 to Downs/Iosue 8-1. At No. 1, Andreea Fusea and Maricel Ballester won a close match, 8-6 against junior Daniela Milano and sophomore Cassandra Price.
Mason's top singles player Andreea Fusea put the Patriots on the board with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1. Then the Patriots completed their comeback. Maricel Ballester won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 and Jenn Dektas won in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. The final Patriots point came when Julia Moscato rallied from a first set loss to defeat Ashton Down, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
