Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's softball team will open up its 2006 Colonial Athletic Association schedule at home as the Patriots host Delaware at George Mason Field in a three-game series this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader on Mar. 25 with the first contest beginning at 2 p.m.
Mason (0-26) and UD (16-7) did meet once already this season, but it was not counted as a conference match-up. The Blue Hens defeated the Patriots in this meeting by a score of 13-7 on March 11 at the Virginia Beach Tournament.
Ciera Jones (Vienna, Va.) leads the Patriots with a .457 batting average and six doubles, all through only 12 games. Freshman Kelsey Mack (Reading, Pa.) has connected on a team second-best five doubles, while sophomore Emily Miller (Springfield, Va.) has played in 25 contests and has tallied a team-leading 11 RBI. Mack and sophomore Amanda Bach (Chesapeake, Va.) each have scored 11 runs for the Patriots, while Miller leads Mason with 23 hits.
Delaware has only played one true away game and won that contest, but has recorded a 10-5 mark on neutral ground. Allison Borchera has played in 23 games for the Blue Hens and leads the team in batting average (.377), hits (29), triples (3) and is tied with teammate Michelle Plant with 15 runs.
Mason and UD will face-off for the single game match-up on Sunday at 1 p.m.
