NEW YORK - George Mason men's and women's track and field completed the first day of competition at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York City on Friday with several athletes placing among the leaders in a competitive field.
Freshman Javan Corniffe qualified for the IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass. on March 4-5 with a time of 1:04.09 in the 500-meter dash, which placed him ninth in the field. Sophomore Brian Hay excelled in the 60-meter hurdles, posting his best time of the season at 8.15 seconds in the preliminary heats.
For the women, freshman Ryann Hendricks placed 11th in a competitive long jump field with a leap of 5.53m. Murielle Ahoure ran the 60-meter dash in 7.72 seconds, while teammate Misti Turner posted a time of 7.83 seconds.
The 6th Annual New Balance Collegiate Invitational will wrap up its second day of competition at the Armory Track and Field Center on Saturday. Events scheduled for the day include the men's and women's 400-meter finals, as well as the men's and women's high jump and triple jump finals.
