Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's softball team will open up its 2006 home season with a match-up against UMBC at George Mason Field on Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.
The Patriots have played in two tournaments thus far this season and own an overall record of 0-7. First Mason traveled to Las Cruces, N.M. and participated in the Troy Cox Classic (Feb. 17-19) and then competed at the Comfort Inn Classic in Atlanta, Ga.(Feb. 24-26), which was cut short due to weather.
UMBC holds a 3-3 record after competing at the Seahawk Classic in Wilmington, N.C. this past weekend. The Retrievers won their last two games at the tournament, which includes victories over Hampton (6-1) and Delaware State (7-5).
In 2005, Mason split a double-header with UMBC as the Patriots claimed a 5-1 victory in the first game and then fell by a score of 1-0 on April 6 in Baltimore, Md.
Last season Mason opened up its home season with a 9-1 loss to Cornell at the Patriot Classic on March 5.
Mason will next compete in its own Patriot Classic, March 4-5, and will first face Mount St. Mary's at 9 a.m. on March 4.
