FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason split its final two conference dual meets of the season on Saturday, winning 32-9 against Campbell and losing 34-14 to Old Dominion, to finish the season 6-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
After today's action, the Patriots are 8-6 overall, while Campbell, with a pair of losses, falls to 5-11 overall and 2-5 in the CAA. ODU improves its record to 10-6-1 and 5-1-1 in the CAA with two victories.
In the first meet of the afternoon, the Patriots dominated Campbell by a final score of 32-9. Mason lost only two matches during the meet, one by forfeit at 157 pounds due to Mitch Webster's knee injury. The Patriots picked up three major decisions, by Joe Coughlin at 125 pounds, Will Powars at 133 pounds, and the reigning back-to-back CAA Rookie of the Week Tyler Tisdell at 165 pounds. Sophomore Randy Oates registered a 16-0 technical fall victory over Kyle Higgins at 184 pounds.
Wins by Coughlin at 125 pounds, Robert Henry at 149 pounds and Ryan Kittrick at heavyweight were bright spots in the Patriots tough loss to ODU. Coughlin registered a 20-1 technical fall victory over Bryan Lashomb with 50 seconds left in the third period, while Henry pinned Jeff Becker 1:44 into the match. In the final match of the meet, Kittrick went into overtime with John Dolida and won the match by two points with a takedown.
In other action, Old Dominion downed Campbell 39-9. The Monarchs won matches at eight of the 10 weight classes, registering two falls and three technical falls.
George Mason wrestles Maryland in its final dual meet of the season on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. at the John Linn Memorial Gym.
