BOSTON - Murielle Ahoure reached the ECAC qualifying mark in the 55-meter dash at the Valentine's Day Meet in Boston, Mass. on Friday night. She will return to the city of Boston to compete in the championships on March 4-5.
Ahoure finished her preliminary heat in the 55-meter dash in 7.06 seconds to qualify for the finals. She finished third in the event, behind Donita Harmon of FIU and Adrienne Power of Swift Athletics, with a time of 7.07 seconds in the finals. The freshman also ran well in the 200-meter dash, posting the second best time of her young career in the event at 25.29 seconds.
Sophomore Melissa Ferry and freshman Brittanie Williams also ran well at the meet. Ferry reached a new personal best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.25, topping her previous indoor high of 2:28.13, while Williams qualified for the finals in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.37 seconds. Williams also competed in the high jump, placing 13th with a mark of 1.58 meters (5 ft. 2.25 in.).
In addition to the strong showing by Williams in the high jump, the Patriots performed well in a number of the other field events. Freshman Ryann Hendricks finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 5.28 meters (17 ft. 4 in.). Both Williams and Hendricks competed in the triple jump, with Williams placing seventh with a leap of 11.41 meters (37 ft. 5.25 in.) and Hendricks finishing 12th with a mark of 10.95 meters (35 ft. 11.25 in.). Senior Ashley Ackerley placed 11th in the weight throw, posting her second best toss of the season with a mark of 15.19 meters (49 ft. 10 in.).
The women's next scheduled competition will be Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Collegiate Open at the George Mason Fieldhouse.
