Fairfax, Va.-George Mason University's swimming and diving teams will be one of three sites to host the third annual Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet. The competition between Mason, College of Charleston, Davidson and Drexel will begin at 4 p.m. on Nov. 3 and will resume the following day at 1:30 p.m. Delaware and UNC Wilmington are the other two host sites where the remaining conference schools will compete.
Most recently for the women, Mason claimed its first Colonial Athletic Association dual meet with a 137-106 win over James Madison on Oct. 28 at the Aquatic & Fitness Center after winning 10 of the 13 events against the Dukes. Katie Kelly won three individual events in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.45), the 200 IM (2:10.57) and the 500 free (5:08.30). For the diving, Colleen Flack won the 3-meter diving event (280.87), while teammate Amanda Fielding won the 1-meter (276.75). Other individual winners were Mallory Pucci in the 200 free (1:55.79) and Allie Smith in the 200 back (2:10.71).
Mason's men's team fell to the Dukes on Oct. 28 by a score of 159-78. The Patriots won four individual events, including two for Ryan Metzker who placed first in both the 3-meter diving event (283.05), as well as the 1-meter (311.55). Robert Kreitler won the 200 fly (1:59.27), while Eric Knight edged out JMU's Dan Smullen by just over one-tenth of a second to claim the 200 fly event (47.80).
In the CAA Pod's inaugural year, Mason hosted the event and both of Mason's swimming & diving teams swept their competition (College of Charleston, Davidson and Drexel) on Nov. 5-6, 2004.
After the Pod Meet, Mason will next return to action at its own Patriot Invitational, Nov. 17-19.
