Fairfax, Va.--After the first day of competition at the Patriot Invitational, which is taking place at the Aquatic & Fitness Center on the campus of George Mason University, UMBC currently sits in first place on both the men's (305) and women's side (241). Mason's women's team is third with 203 points, while the men's team sits in sixth with 74 points.
Three meet records were broken today, including Sarah Bizer's preliminary performance in the 50 yard freestyle, which she swam in a time of 23.57 for Mason. Bizer ended up placing first in the finals with a time of 23.67. Meghan Thiel (American) swam the 500 free final in a record time of 4:49.64, while Agnes Stanislawska (UMBC) set a new record in the 200 IM final (2:03.74).
In the 500 free, Katie Kelly placed third for the Patriots with a time of 4:58.33, while Mallory Pucci (5:07.13) and Allie Smith (5:07.25) rounded out the top-8 in the event. The 400 medley relay team of Rebecca Jimenez, Liz Ouzts, Brooke Crowther and Bizer finished third with a time of 3:55.78.
On the men's side, Eric Knight placed second in the 50 free with a time of 21.25, while the 200 free relay team of Ellis Domenech, Josh Carden, Steven Benecki and Knight placed fifth with a time of 1:26.71.
The second day of the three day competition will begin with preliminary action at 10 a.m. and finals will start at 6 p.m. on Nov. 18 at the Aquatic & Fitness Center.
