Beallsville, Md. - Georgetown posted a final round score of 13-over par 297 and came from behind to win the Hoya Invitational by one stroke, finishing at 32-over par 600, topping the 12-team field by one stroke at the Members Club at Four Streams. The Patriots began the day tied for third, but finished 10th after shooting a 29-over par 313 at the Members Club at Four Streams, a par-71, 6,718 yard course.
The Hoyas had entered the final day of play trailing the College of William & Mary by four strokes, but received balanced scoring in its lineup to finish one stroke ahead of the Tribe, who finished second at 33-over par 601. Penn State was a close third, finishing at 34-over par 602.
The silver lining for the Patriots was a second place finish by J.J. Amoruso, who finished at three-over par 145 (73-72), a career-best finish. Penn State junior Robert Rohanna took medalist honors, firing a three-under par 139 to pace the field of 64 golfers. Rohanna shot a one-over par 72 in the first round, but fired a tournament-best four-under par 67, including five birdies, on a day featuring sunny skies, but strong winds.
After carding a three-over par 74 on Saturday and standing eighth overall, Mason's Nick DeSimone dropped to a tie for 28th after shooting a nine-over par 80. The Patriots Justin Wingo and Clark Bixler both finished tied for 47th in the tournament.
