Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's head softball coach Joe Verbanic has announced that Becky Anderson (Oakton, Va./Oakton) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the 2006-07 Patriot softball team.
Anderson has earned three varsity letters at Oakton and will be a member of the varsity squad her senior season. The Oakton natvie was named all-district from 2003-05, earned district tournament MVP honors freshman year, was named second team all-region in 2005 and was a regional honorable mention the previous season. Anderson amassed a team second-best batting average (.387), garnered an ERA of 0.74 and struck out 28 percent of batters she faced in 2005.
"We are very excited to add a player like Becky to our program," said Verbanic. "Not only is Becky an outstanding athlete and student, but she has shown the ability to be a dominant player against national competition. We are looking forward to Becky making an immediate contribution to Mason's softball program."
Two years in a row, Anderson led her team in RBI (2004 & 2005) and she closed out her junior season as the all-time home run leader in Oakton's record books. In her freshman and junior years, Oakton was district champion and Anderson was a member of Oakton's squad when it was regional runner-up in 2003 and 2004.
Anderson amassed a slugging percentage of .464 with her travel team, the New Jersey Breakers Gold, in the summer of 2005. She went on to collect a 5-1-1 record on the mound with two saves the same summer, which included a perfect 1-0 game over Illinois Powerhouse on July 22, 2005.
