Fairfax, Va. - Several Mason track and field athletes shined on Saturday at the Patriot Games, held at the George Mason Fieldhouse.
For the second consecutive meet, freshman Murielle Ahoure improved upon her time in the 60-meter dash, placing first at the Patriot Games with a time of 7.62 seconds. Ahoure has already qualified for the ECAC Championships scheduled for March 4-5 in Boston, Mass. Ahoure also placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.40 seconds. Teammate Misti Turner wasn't far behind in the 200-meters, finishing fourth with a time of 25.64 seconds.
Brittanie Williams also had a big afternoon, finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.92 seconds, as well as second in the high jump. Ryann Hendricks also did well in more than one event, placing first in the long jump and improving upon her ECAC qualifying mark with a leap of 5.72-meters (18-9 1/4). Hendricks also placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.66-meters (38-3 1/4).
On the men's side, Marc Kellman finished first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.04 seconds, two places ahead of teammate Mutsa Nyakabau, who finished third at 7.14 seconds. Kellman also finished second in the long jump with a mark of 6.80-meters (22-3 3/4).
Brian Hay placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.26 seconds, while Quentin Matthews took first place in the high jump with a mark of 2.03-meters (6-8).
Both the men's and women's relay teams performed well at the meet. The men and women both placed first in the distance medley, while the women finished second to Georgetown in the 4x400-meter relay (4:04.43) and the men placed third in the 4x400-meter relay (3:28.39).
The indoor track and field season continues on Feb. 3-4 when the men and women travel to New York, N.Y. for the Armory Collegiate Invitational.
