Track and Field Wraps Up Final Day of Action at the VT Invitational

Blacksburg, Va. - The men's and women's indoor track and field team wrapped up a successful two-day trip to Blacksburg, Va. and the Virginia Tech Invitational track meet on Saturday.

In the triple jump, freshman Brittanie Williams qualified for the ECAC Championships scheduled for March 3-4 in Boston, Mass., setting a personal best with a leap of 11.94 meters. Williams also placed sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.64 meters.

Freshman Ryann Hendricks also qualified for the ECAC Championships in the triple jump, finishing in ninth place in the event with a leap of 11.82 meters. Later in the meet, Hendricks reached another ECAC qualifying mark, this time in the long jump, with a mark of 5.73 meters.

Murielle Ahoure improved upon her ECAC qualifying mark of 7.73 seconds in the 60-meter dash set last week at the Father Diamond Invitational at the George Mason Fieldhouse. The freshman shaved .02 seconds off that mark, posting a time of 7.71 seconds.

The men's team also turned in some notable performances at the meet. Sophomore Brian Hay qualified for the IC4A Championships with a time of 8.12 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. Quentin Matthews finished third in the high jump with a mark of 2.05 meters, .01 meters off the IC4A qualifying standard of 2.06 meters. However, the senior qualified for the championships last weekend with a leap of 2.06 meters in the high jump at the Father Diamond Invitational.

With a mark of 7.12 meters in the long jump, senior Marc Kellman qualified for the IC4A Championships in that event. Kellman has now reached the qualifying standard in both the long jump and the triple jump. He posted a mark of 15.82 meters in the triple jump at last weekend's Father Diamond Invitational.

The men's and women's indoor track and field team's next competition will be at the Patriot Games at the George Mason Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 28.
