Track and Field Completes First Day of Competition at VT Invitational

Blacksburg, Va. - Sophomore Brian Hay and senior Ashley Ackerley turned in standout performances for the George Mason track and field team on the first day of competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.

Competing in the 60-meter hurdles, Hay took first place in his preliminary heat with a time of 8.12 seconds. The Kingston, Jamaica native then placed third in the semi-finals (8.16 seconds) to qualify for tomorrow's finals scheduled for 12:50 p.m.

For the women, Ackerley set a new personal best with a toss of 13.62 meters in the weight throw, which placed her third behind Lindsay Neuberger of Wake Forest (15.76 meters) and Ketra Alexander of VMI (14.24 meters).

Senior Marc Kellman came in fourth place in the men's triple jump with a leap of 15.56 meters, while freshman Murielle Ahoure won her preliminary heat in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.71 seconds. However, her time of 7.76 seconds in the semi-finals failed to qualify her for tomorrow's finals.

The two-day competition concludes tomorrow with the first events scheduled to begin at noon.
