January 10, 2006--George Mason University Dance and Cheerleading teams are headed to the 2006 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship, held January 13-16 at Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Fla. This is the eighth straight year the teams have been invited to what has been tabbed the most prestigious college spirit event in the country.

The Masonettes placed in the top 10 of the Nation's best college dance teams every year for the past seven years, including a sixth place finish last year. In the past, the dance squad has appeared on espn2 during the competition special. This year, the team is currently ranked 6th in the Nation out of all Division I college dance teams.

The Masonettes are currently pre-seeded 3rd out of 23 Division I dance teams (based on qualifying video results). The CAA has three other teams competing in the competition; Hofstra, Delaware and James Madison.

The co-ed cheerleading team has placed in the top five for the past three years, notching a fifth place finish in last year's competition. The team has finished as high as third in the 2003 competition. The All-Girl Cheer team finished in ninth place overall. Both squads are pre-seeded 5th for the competition in their respective divisions.

The results from the competition will be available after the competition is over on GoMason.com and available during the event on www.varsity.com.
