George Mason's Dalton Ebanks has announced his resignation as men's track and field and cross country head coach, but will remain with George Mason through August 31. Ebanks was in his eighth season as head coach of the storied program and he has been a part of the Patriots family for 19 years.
Ebanks first came to George Mason in 1985 as an assistant coach with the women's team. He served in that capacity through 1990 when he became an assistant coach with the men's team. As an assistant coach, he was part of the staff that won the 1996 NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championship and was runner-up in the 1997 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Ebanks rose to the position of head coach in 1997 and he has maintained the program's strength through strong recruiting in his native country of Jamaica. During his reign, Ebanks has produced a national champion, numerous All-Americans and a pair of Olympians. In his absence, assistant coach Skeeter Jackson will run the program.
The 2005 track and field season concludes with the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 9-12 at Sacramento, Calif. Senior Marc Kellman is the lone Patriot competing there as he qualified for the event in the triple jump.
