Track and Field Teams to Host Mason Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason track and field teams will host the Mason Invitational Saturday at George Mason Stadium. Sixteen men's teams will come to compete while 14 women's teams will be on hand.

The Mason Invitational begins at 10:30 a.m. with the women's hammer throw, men's javelin and men's pole vault. Field events follow throughout the day, concluding with the men's triple jump, which starts at 3:30 p.m.

Track/running events begin at 11:05 a.m. with the women's 5,000-meter run. The final track event of the day is the men's 4x400-meter relay at 4:45 p.m.

Teams scheduled to be in attendance on the men's side include: George Mason, Bowie State, Campbell, Coppin State, Essex County, George Washington, Globe Institute, Hagerstown, Howard, Howard CC, Mary Washington, Maryland, UMES, Montgomery College, VCU and William & Mary.

Women's team should include: George Mason, Bowie State, Campbell, Essex County, George Washington, Globe Institute, Hagerstown, Howard, Howard CC, Mary Washington, Maryland, UMES, VCU and William & Mary.

The Patriots will be looking to qualify more athletes for the NCAA East Regional, May 27-28, at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island (N.Y.) near Manhattan.

Following the Mason Invitational, George Mason will compete just once before the Regional. The women will be heading to the ECAC Championships, while the men will compete at the IC4A Championships. Both championship meets will be held at Princeton, May 14-15.
