Box Score

The George Mason baseball team was unable to extend its winning streak to three games on Wednesday as the Patriots traveled to University of Maryland-Baltimore County where they were handed a 5-1 defeat.

Mason (27-16) managed just five hits in the game and committed two errors, including a critical one in the seventh that allowed a pair of unearned runs to score. Mason starter Tyler Wingerd was tagged with the loss despite allowing just one earned run on five hits in six and one-third innings. But three unearned runs scored in the frame to give UMBC (12-27) a 4-1 lead. They scored an insurance run in the eighth as UMBC starter Kyle Wildasin allowed just four hits in seven innings without a walk.

Mason's lone run came across in the seventh when the Patriots tied the game. Casey Slattery and Robby Jacobsen had back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners and Chris Fournier's sacrifice fly made it 1-1.

Mason will look to get back into the win column this weekend as the Patriots play a three-game series at Delaware. Game times are 3 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
