Mason Softball Splits with Saint Francis

Mason to Face Mount St. Mary's on Senior Day

Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's softball team (19-28) will close out its home season on May 3 as the Patriots host Mount St. Mary's (11-28) for a double-header, with the first game starting at 3 p.m. Prior to the first pitch, senior shortstop Stacy James (Leesburg, Va.) will be honored for all her hard work and dedication to the Mason softball program.

The Patriots, who are 6-8 at George Mason Field this season, last faced a non-conference opponent on April 19 as Mason split with Saint Francis in Fairfax. The Patriots won the first game by a score of 5-4 and lost the second contest (5-0). James leads Mason with a .331 batting average and also has connected on a team-high 44 hits. Sophomore Megan Farrell (Medford, N.J.) leads the Patriots on the mound as she owns an ERA of 3.85 in 112 innings of work.

Mount St. Mary's heads into its final game of the 2005 season on a nine-game losing streak and are 2-12 on the road thus far this season. The last victory for The Mount was on April 25 when MSM defeated Fairleigh Dickinson by a score of 6-0 in the first game of a double-header. Kathleen Housman leads The Mount in batting average (.292), runs (14), hits (31) and doubles (11), while Maria Lutz (7-12) has garnered a team-best 2.39 ERA.

After their match-up with The Mount, the Patriots will return to action on May 5 when they face George Washington on the road for a double-header, starting at 3 p.m.
