Men's Tennis Falls Short in Rain Shortened Match

(April 7, 2005) The men's tennis team lost to Mount St. Mary's, 4-2, in a rain shortened match at the Mason tennis courts. Only the singles matches earned points as only one doubles match was completed.

The Patriots won the first two singles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 by identical 7-5, 6-2 scores as Stephan Dufils defeated Phil Holliday and Tim Bainton defeated Drew Arbeiter. The Mount's swept the remaining four singles matches for the 4-2 margin of victory. At No. 3 singles, Mason's Eric Vogel battled Bobby Cozzillio to a 7-5, 6-4 loss. Mount St. Mary's lost only five games in the final three singles positions.

In the only doubles match completed, Mason's top team of Bainton/Dufils defeated Holliday/Arbeiter, 8-6.

Mason is in action Saturday, hosting CAA opponent UNC Wilmington at 11 a.m. at the George Mason tennis courts.
