University Park, Pa., April 30, 2005 - George Mason's golf team slipped into a 10th place tie after the third and final round of the Rutherford Intercollegiate on the Blue Course at Penn State. The Patriots shot a three-round team high of 304, after carding a 295 and 292 on day one.

Junior Mike Cavanagh was the only Patriot to have his best score on this final round, shooting a 72 today after carding two straight 73s yesterday. He finished tied for 20th with a 218 three-round total. Nick DeSimone, who shot a 3-under 69 yesterday, carded a 78 to finish tied for 39th with a 222 total.

Mike Kirby and Trey Bressler each shot 77 today, finishing tied for 51st and 58th respectively. Dan Hurley finished with a three-round total (73-77-81) 231.

The Penn State men's golf team claimed victory in the Rutherford 13 of the past 14 tournaments. The Lions set a Rutherford Intercollegiate 54-hole record finishing with a first place score of 277 (-21).

John Eades of Maryland took first place individually shooting a 200 (-16) to lead the Terps to a second place victory. Towson University finished in third place shooting five strokes higher than Maryland with an 866 (+2).

The Patriots have concluded their 2005 spring tournament season.
