State College, Pa., April 29, 2005 -- The George Mason golf team is in the middle of the pack in eighth place out of 15 teams after the opening two rounds of the 29th annual Rutherford Intercollegiate Golf Tournament today. The three-round tournament takes place on the par-72, 6,535 yard Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa.
Nick DeSimone led the Patriots shooting a 3-under par 69 in the second round for a 144 total (75-69), good for a tie for 16th place. Mike Cavanagh was consistent, shooting a one-over par 73 on both rounds. Mike Kirby carded a 74 on both rounds for a 148 total score and tie for 34th. Dan Hurley shot a (73-77) 150 and Trey Bressler carded a (75-76) 151 on the day.
George Mason will look to improve in the standings in tomorrow's final round, which begins at 8:00 a.m.
