Sophomore Emily Hoesch (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) scored four goals as the Dragons dropped their first home game of the season, falling to George Mason 16-10. Drexel 9-4 (2-4 CAA) fought to come within two with three minutes remaining in the first half. It was not enough to combat Mason's eight free position goals. Mason improves to 5-8, (4-1 CAA).

Hoesch took the lead to start with a quick goal in the first minute of play. Mason answered with three-straight scores from free position attempts, featuring goals by Laura King, Melissa Venturi and Christina Frank. Kerry Kelly (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) stopped the Patriots, grabbing an interception midfield from Meg Dentler's clear. Kelly raced down field to assist Hoesch's second goal at 20:31 to pull Drexel within one. Under two minutes later, Mason gained control with an unassisted goal by Sarah Bryant. Mason's Alex Velesz scored her first of a career-high four goals, a minute later to put the Patriots up 5-2. Drexel's Kelly took the one-on-one to goal to score at 15:24 bringing the Dragons within two. Drexel's defense held the Patriots scoreless for nine minutes until Alex Velesz found the net from a feed by Melissa Venturi. Hoesch fought to keep the Dragons within two, scoring three minutes later. Colleen Rocks (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) fired in a pass from Katie Bradley (Spring City, Pa./Owen J Roberts) to score the Dragons final goal of the first half. Mason scored two more, one coming from Bryant in the final 21 seconds, to put them up 8-5 at intermission.

Mason opened the half as they started them game with three-straight goals, two coming from free position attempts, featuring Venturi and Velesz. Senior Jennifer Bonini (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) rolled the crease to score back-to-back unassisted goals in two minutes cutting the Patriot lead to 11-7. Mason's Venturi found the back of the net to slow the Dragons rally at 14:55. Twenty seconds later Hoesch responded, grabbing the center draw to race down field, dishing it to Alison Smith (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Comsewogue), who sent it right back, to assist a Hoesch goal, pulling the Dragons within four. The Patriots responded with a three-goal run, featuring two more free position attempts to seal the Dragons fate. Kelly and Kaitlin Keegan (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) each tallied a goal for Drexel in the final minutes. Drexel controlled eight of 14 second half draws, but it wasn't enough to pass the Patriots.

Drexel's Kristen Urian (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) stopped 10 shots, six in the second half. She also grabbed three groundballs in the loss. Mason's Meg Dentler made nine saves in cage. Mason outshot Drexel 40-25 and sank eight of 13 free position attempts to win. The Dragons scored one of four free position attempts. Drexel meets their final CAA match of the season against James Madison on Sunday. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Vidas Field.
