Towson, Md. - Senior center fielder Jeanne Bosch (Patchogue-Medford H.S./Medford, N.Y.) drove in the game-winning run on a single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Towson University (20-12, 7-1) a 2-1 victory over George Mason University (12-20, 3-3) in a Colonial Athletic Association game at the Tigers' Towson Center Field on Sunday afternoon.
The win allowed the Tigers to avenge a 1-0 loss they suffered against the Patriots in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader, snapping Towson's seven-game conference win streak.
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when freshman Lesley Hassen (Kempsville H.S./Virginia Beach, Va.) hit a solo home run with two outs.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Tigers tied the game at 1-1 when pinch hitter Aimee Rosa (California H.S./Whittier, Cal.) singled to score sophomore Jen Hastings (Delmar H.S./Delmar, Del.) from second base.
With two outs in the seventh inning, the Tigers mounted their comeback. Senior shortstop Katie Mumbauer (Liberty H.S./Bethlehem, Pa.) singled and moved to second after sophomore Megan Zwoyer (El Camino Real/Woodland Hills, Cal.) walked. Bosch hit her game-winning single to left field, scoring Mumbauer and giving Towson the victory.
Senior Jessica Wides (Damascus H.S./Gaithersburg, Md.) earned the win for the Tigers, allowing one run on four hits. She also struck out 10 Mason hitters while walking just one in upping her record to 8-5.
Sophomore Megan Farrell (Bishop Eustace Prep/Medford, N.J.) took the loss for Mason, dropping to 6-5 on the season. She allowed the decisive run in two innings of work after freshman Amber Straube (Princess Anne H.S./Virginia Beach, Va.) held the Tigers to just one run on three hits for the first 4.2 innings.
