The George Mason women's track and field team competed at the first day of the ECAC Championships on Saturday and it was a good day for Alycia Williams, as the junior sprinter advanced to Sunday's finals in both the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash.
Williams' time of 55.05 in the 400-meters was second only to Romona Modesta of Morgan State who finished in 55.04 seconds. In the 200-meters, she was seventh, with a time of 24.56, within .4 seconds of the top qualifier, Kimberly Lyles of Pittsburgh.
The 400-meter final will be running at 1:55 p.m. on Sunday while the 200-meter final is set to go off at 2:35 p.m.
Williams wasn't the only Patriot to advance to a final as Paula Bailey was the sixth and final qualifier in the 400-meters. She ran a time of 56.34 and finished just ahead of Linda Trotter of Cornell, who matched her time.
Freshman Fiana York failed to advance beyond the preliminaries in the 800-meters, finishing 18th. The 4X400-meter team also did not advance.
