George Mason Drops 8-6 Decision to No. 12 Johns Hopkins

FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason led 4-2 early in the second half, but No. 12 Johns Hopkins rallied with six unanswered goals and held on for an 8-6 win over the Patriots in women's lacrosse action Wednesday evening at George Mason Stadium. The Patriots fall to 0-3 at home and 1-4 overall on the season, while the Blue Jays win their third straight and improve to 4-2 on the year.

George Mason junior attack Sarah Bryant (Fairfax Station, Va.) posted a hat trick in leading all scorers with three goals, while freshman attacker Laura King (Springfield, Pa.) had two scores. Senior attack Kristy Manas (Harwood, Md.) finished with a game-high three assists.

Sophomore attacker Mary Key (Stevensonville, Md.) led the Blue Jays with two goals and two assists. Junior attack Meagan Voight (Sykesville, Md.) also had two markers. Four Hopkins players had one goal each.

Mason got on the board in the first 10 minutes after back-to-back scores from Bryant and King. Midway through the half, the Jays responded with two quick strikes in a minute-and-a-half to tie the contest. Bryant tallied the final marker of the half at 16:34 as Mason led 3-2 at halftime.

King registered the first tally of the second period for a 4-2 Patriot lead at 4:53. After being held without a point in the first half, Key led the Hopkins rally, scoring the first marker to start the six-goal run, while adding two assists and another score that put the Blue Jays ahead 8-4 with a little under 13 minutes remaining. Bryant's third goal came off a free position shot at 17:42. Mason scored its final goal with a little over two minutes remaining and Hopkins managed to run out the clock for the win.

Patriot senior goalkeeper Meg Dentler (Crofton, Md.) stopped 10 shots and allowed eight goals. Hopkins keeper Lauren Riddick rejected five attempts and allowed six goals. The Jays out shot Mason, 21-18, and led 9-7 in draws. Mason's Megan Bartlett (Voorhees, N.J.) and Hopkins' Kadie Stamper (Bel Air, Md.) each had five ground balls.

George Mason hosts No. 9 Boston University Saturday at 12 p.m.
