Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's softball team (9-15) split a double-header with Marist (3-9) Tuesday afternoon at George Mason Field. The Red Foxes won the first game by a score of 4-0, while the Patriots claimed a 4-3 victory in the second contest of the day.

Freshman Amber Straube (Virginia Beach, Va.) pitched the entire first game for the Patriots and gave up four runs off of 13 hits, while walking one and striking out six of the 36 batters she faced. Sophomore Megan Farrell (Medford, N.J.) was 2-3 at the plate, while freshman Amanda Bach (Chesapeake, Va.) was 1-3 in Mason's 4-0 loss. Megan Rigos pitched seven innings for the Red Foxes and gave up only three hits, while striking out eight Patriots.

Down by one run in the bottom of the third inning in the second game, Katlyn Winter (Mentor, Ohio) hit a single homerun to left field which evened the score at 3. In the fifth, Emily Miller (Fr.; Springfield, Va.) connected on a double to left field and was brought across home plate after Winter hit a sacrifice fly to the leftfielder after Farrell had moved Miller to second with a sacrifice bunt. Winter was 2-3 at the plate in the second contest and earned a team-high three RBI and also scored one run for the Patriots.

Arielle Weinkofsky (Fr.; Oakhurst, N.J.) earned her first win of the season as she was on the mound the entire second game for the Patriots. Weinkofsky (1-5) gave up only three runs off of six hits, while walking four and striking out seven batters. Kristen Merlino collected the loss for Marist as she gave up four runs off of eight hits, while walking one and striking out three of the 29 Patriots she faced.

The Patriots will return to action when they host Delaware on Mar. 25 at 2 p.m. for a double-header at George Mason Field.
