Osceola, Fla.--In its last day of competition at the Rebel Spring Games, George Mason University's softball team (8-14) claimed a 4-0 victory over IUPUI and went on to drop a 9-5 decision against Army at the Osceola Sports Complex.

Against IUPUI, Kristen Dickel hit a single to left center field in the top of the third inning and advanced to second off of a sacrifice bunt from Emily Grapel. In the same inning, Katlyn Winter connected on a single, which was followed by another single to left field from Stacy James. Emily Miller followed James in the batting order and earned two RBI as she brought both Dickel and Winter across home plate. Megan Farrell doubled to right field and earned an RBI as James scored from second base. The final run for the Patriots was scored by Amanda Bach in the top of the fifth inning.

Farrell pitched the entire game for Mason and gave up only five hits, while striking out five of the 25 batters she faced. Devan Craig was on the mound for the first 4.2 innings for IUPUI and gave up four runs off of seven hits, while walking one and striking out four batters.

In the second game of the day, Miller was 1-3 at the plate and garnered three RBI after connecting on a double to right field in the bottom of the first inning. Bach, Winter and James all scored off of the triple and Miller scored the final run for the Patriots in that inning. Bach was 1-2 against Army and hit a triple in the second and she scored Mason's fifth run of the game after Farrell hit a single to right field to earn an RBI. The score was tied at five heading into the seventh inning, but Army was able to score four runs in the top half of the inning to solidify its win.

Amber Strabue (2-6) pitched 6.1 innings for the Patriots and gave up nine runs off of 12 hits, while walking one and striking out five of the 34 batters she faced. Against Army, Mason connected on four hits and ended with one error.

Mason will return to action on Mar. 22 at George Mason Field when the Patriots host Marist for a doubleheader.
