(March 11, 2005) The Mason women's tennis team has played most of their spring matches in adverse conditions and their last match at Coppin State on Saturday was no different, but the team managed to win the match before darkness set in, 4-1.

The six-hour match began at noon and included a 1 ½ hour rain delay. The conditions were cold, windy and on and off rainy and were played on only four courts. Mason got off to a great start sweeping the three doubles matches for the point. The top team of Andreea Fusea and Maricel Ballister won their match, 8-6, improving their spring record to 3-3. The second team of Jenn Dektas and Jamie Delorie won 8-5, also improving to 3-3 in the spring. Freshman Julia Moscato and Katie Sloper easily won their match against the Eagles team of Gabrielle Spence and Ferria Cunningham, 8-0, winning their first match of the spring in three tries.

The single matches began as soon as possible after doubles matches were completed. Freshman Julia Moscato didn't lose a game on the day, winning her match in straight sets, 6-0 6-0, against Cunningham from the No. 6 position before the No. 1 doubles match was completed. Katie Sloper won her first match of the spring defeating Beckles, 6-2, 6-1. Mason needed only one more point for the match and had Jamie Delorie winning 6-0, 4-0 when the rains came. After the rain delay, she got back on court and won five straight points to win the match.

The other two matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions did not finish. Andreea Fusea was leading in her match and Jenn Dektas was trailing in her match before they were called.

Mason (3-6, 0-1) travels to Bucknell for their next match on March 20.
