Osceola, Fla.--George Mason University's softball team (7-13) fell to Southeast Missouri State by a score of 5-0 and Columbia, 8-0, Wednesday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games in Osceola, Fla.
In the first game of the day, designated hitter Emily Miller was 2-3 at the plate against SEMS, which included a single to right field in the top of the fourth. Catcher Lesley Hassen hit a double in the top of the fifth to right field, which was followed by a single to shortstop by Jenna Cooksey. Amanda Bach and Stacy James also collected one hit each against SEMS.
Arielle Weinkofsky pitched the entire game for the Patriots and gave up five runs off of nine hits, while walking two and striking out three batters. Elaine Fisher was on the mound all seven innings for SEMS and gave up five hits, while walking one and striking out four Patriots.
Katlyn Winter and James were the only two Patriots to connect on a hit against Columbia as James hit a single in the bottom of the first and Winter hit a bunt-single in the bottom of the third. While on the mound for the five innings, Amber Straube (2-5) gave up eight runs off of nine hits, while walking one and striking to Lions. The contest against Columbia only went five innings due to the collegiate eight-run rule.
The Patriots will continue to compete in the Rebel Spring Games and will face Fairleigh Dickinson on Mar. 17 at 10:40 a.m. and Butler University at 12:30 p.m.
