FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason begins a three-game home stand against teams ranked in the top 20 with a 7 p.m. contest versus No. 9 Maryland Wednesday at George Mason Stadium.
The Patriots are 0-3 against the Terrapins in the short series, which dates back to the 2002 season. Wednesday evening's contest will mark the first appearance for Maryland at George Mason Stadium. Last year, the Patriots played their closest match in the series against the Terps. George Mason led 7-6 with 22:41 remaining before Maryland ran off six unanswered and went on to win 13-9. Second-team All-American senior goalkeeper Meg Dentler (Crofton, Md./Arundel) stopped 20 shots in the contest.
The Patriots snapped a two-game season-opening skid with an 8-6 win at George Washington Thursday for their first win of the season. Freshman attacker Christina Frank (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright), the Colonial Athletic Association co-Rookie of the Week, scored four goals to lead the Patriots, while Dentler finished with 17 saves.
Maryland has won two straight with wins over Brown (20-7) and Denver (15-3). The Terrapins, who are embarking on a six-game road swing, are playing their third game in six days. Maryland is 4-0 this season against unranked opponents and 2-1 on the road.
