FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason's women's lacrosse game at Virginia Tech Saturday has been moved to Fairfax, head coach Amy Umbach announced Tuesday. The contest, which becomes the Patriots home opener, is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the George Mason intramural turf field (field #3). The turf field is located on Rapidan Lane (near the George Mason Softball Complex) behind George Mason Stadium.
The Patriots and Hokies were originally slated to play Saturday at 1 p.m. in Blacksburg, but unfavorable weather conditions in the mid-Atlantic region made field conditions unplayable at the host school.
Mason installed its turf field last summer to provide its intercollegiate and intramural teams a surface that could be used year round in case of bad weather.
The Patriots are 0-1 on the year after dropping their season-opener at No. 8 North Carolina by a 10-3 margin. Va. Tech has already had two matches postponed this season due to the weather. The team opens its season Saturday against Mason.
