George Mason seniors Richard Phillips and Ricardo Melbourne competed at the prestigious Millrose Games this past weekend and the pair ran well against some of the nation's best as Phillips finished second and Melbourne third in the 60-meter hurdles.
Competing in Madison Square Garden in the heart of New York City, Phillips came up one one-hundredth of a second shy of winning the event. Aries Merritt of Tennesse was the collegiate champion with a time of 7.75 seconds. Phillips was second in 7.76 while Melbourne was third in 7.88 seconds.
While Phillips and Melbourne were competing at the Millrose Games, teammate Ryan McCoy was at the New York City Amory competing in the Armory Collegiate Invitational. McCoy won the collegiate long jump event while Quentin Matthews was fourth in the Championship high jump.
Also competing for the Patriots was Sheena Davidson and Alycia Williams in the 200-meters where they were 11th and 14th, respectively. Fiana York competed in the Championship 800-meters, finishing 8th.
