FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason earned three forfeit victories over American, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles topped the Patriots 30-18 in non-conference wrestling action on "Senior Night" Friday evening at the John Linn Memorial Gymnasium. Mason evens its mark to 6-6 on the season, while the Eagles win their second straight and improve to 2-10.
American began the contest winning the first three matches over George Mason, including a pin at Heavyweight and a technical fall victory at 197 for a 14-0 lead.
The Eagles forfeited at 125, 133 and 141, giving the Patriots an 18-14 advantage. American rallied back, however, for victories in the last four matches to take the 30-18 win.
Prior to the start of the match, George Mason honored junior Brian Smith (Haymarket, Va./Broad Run) and senior Nick Webster (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) as they participated in the final home match of their careers.
George Mason visits Colonial Athletic Association opponent Campbell Friday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m.
