George Mason head baseball coach Bill Brown is pleased to announce the early signings of three high school players to National Letters-of-Intent to become student-athletes at Mason beginning with the 2006-07 academic year. Daniel Gerjets of Mount Airy, Md., Chris Henderson of Marlton, N.J. and Daniel Palumbo of Bowie, Md. will join the Patriots beginning with the 2007 season.

"Dan Gerjets has the ability to be an impact player for us as a freshman, because he has command of the strike zone with three pitches," said Mason head coach Bill Brown. "Chris Henderson is a very polished, very physical player with the skills to contribute immediately, both behind the plate and offensively. Daniel Palumbo possesses all the abilities that we were searching for in looking for an infielder who can play and contribute right away."

Gerjets is a 6'2" left-handed pitcher from South Carroll High School. As a junior, he pitched 50 innings, striking out 68 batters while walking just 17. He compiled a 0.54 earned run average while being named the team's Most Valuable Player. Gerjets played fall ball for the Oriolelanders and is also a member of the South Carroll basketball team. He was named the South Carroll High School Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Henderson is a 6'0" left-handed hitting catcher from Cherokee High School. Henderson batted .473 as a junior with 10 HR and 44 RBI. He was 9 for 9 on stolen base attempts and he can also play second base. Last season, he was named second-team All-State, first-team All-South Jersey, first-team All-Conference and first-team All-County. He participated in the Carpenter Cup all-star tournament after his junior season. Henderson also plays linebacker on the football team.

Palumbo is a 6'2" right-handed hitting shortstop from Archbishop Spalding High School. A .392 hitter as a junior, he was named the team's MVP, All-Conference and All-County. He plays basketball at Archbishop Spalding and he is the brother of Mason assistant coach and former standout shortstop Jeff Palumbo.
