Fairfax, Va (December 10, 2005)--The George Mason wrestling team began their conference schedule with a commanding 27-12 win against rival James Madison at John Linn Memorial Gymnasium today. Mason lost only two matches that were wrestled and one because of a forfeit.

Senior Joel Caruso began the match with a major decision, 17-6 against Madison's Marcus Bartley, getting the Patriots off to a 4-0 start. Caruso evens his record to 4-4 on the young season and records his first major decision.

Madison responded with an overtime decision at heavyweight as the Dukes Chris Cvitan took the 2-1 decision against Ryan Kittner and three team points. The Dukes received six points in the next match at 125 by forfeit. James Madison would only win one more match at the 141 weight class when Brian Kibbler defeated freshman Chris Cartella 7-2.

The Patriots continue to get production from redshirt freshman Will Powars and Tyler Tisdell. Powars improved to 10-3 with a narrow 4-3 decision against Rich Gebauer at 133 pounds. Tisdell, wrestling at 165 pounds, improved to a team-high 11 wins against only three losses with a technical fall (21-6), his first on the season, against the Dukes Mike Meagher.

Mason also received major decisions from Robert Henry (149) and Mike Moyer (184). Henry defeated Jeff Jacobs 14-3 improving to 7-4 on the season and Moyer blanked Jason Chlafant 12-0 to even his record at 5-5.

Mitch Webster also evened his record to 5-5 on the season with a 15-6 decision against Scott Yorko. Mason's Randy Oates won his match at 174 against Brian Anderson, 8-5.

Next up for the Patriots is the Southern Scuffle tournament at the University of North Carolina Greensboro December 29-30.
