Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's swimming & diving teams both remain in fifth place, out of 11 teams, after the second day's competition of the Patriot Invitational wrapped-up Saturday evening at the Aquatic & Fitness Center.
Yale climbed two spots to now sit in first place on the women's side with 530 points, while Duke is in second (430), UMBC is in third (456), UNCW sits in fourth (341) and Mason is next with 299 points. Yale has maintained its lead on the men's side with 650 points, while UMBC (504), UNCW (390.50), Duke (257) and Mason (222) round out the top-5 teams.
Mason freshman Allie Smith placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.07), while UMBC's Meghan Sackett won the event in a meet record time of 1:51.22. Amanda Fielding claimed the 3-meter diving event title for the Patriots with a score of 258.20, while Colleen Flack garnered a fourth place finish (234.10).
Senior Tim Norton won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 3:59.66 , while junior Tom Koucheravy set a meet record for the second day in a row as he won the 200 free in a time of 1:39.27. Mason's 800-yard freestyle relay of Matt McGillicuddy, Koucheravy, Norton and Matt Kane earned a second place finish with a time of 6:52.73.
The Patriot Invitational will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 20 with preliminaries starting at 9 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
