Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's swimming & diving teams hosted East Carolina, as well as William & Mary Saturday afternoon at the Aquatic & Fitness Center. There was a total of six dual meets that occurred and Mason's men's team defeated William & Mary, 155-86, but narrowly fell to the Pirates, 125-118. The women's team came up short to both W&M (136-107) and ECU (157-81).
ECU also defeated the Tribe on the men's side, 141.5-94.5, as well as the women's side, 145-93.
Mason's men's team claimed seven of the 12 events, including two by both senior Tim Norton and junior Tom Koucheravy. Norton finished first in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.87) and the 200 individual medley in a time of 1:55.67. Koucheravy placed first in both the 1,000 freestyle (9:42.23) and the 500 free (4:40.39), while freshman Ryan Metzker claimed the 3-meter diving title (296.60).
For the women, the Patriots placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:35.78. Competing in this race for Mason was senior Lacy Richardson, sophomore Mallory Pucci, junior Rebecca Jimenez and sophomore Sarah Bizer. Junior Colleen Flack placed second in the 1-meter diving event (235.9), while sophomore Amanda Fielding was next with a score of 232.7. In addition, Flack garnered a third place finish in the 3-meter diving event (232.6).
The Patriots will return to action when both teams compete at the CAA Pod Meet on Davidson's campus, Nov. 4-5.
