Results
George Mason men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Mason Invitational on Saturday at Bull Run Park. Seventeen teams competed on the 8K and 4K race courses, with the Mason men finishing 7th and the women 9th.
The men's and women's team from American took first place honors. For the men, seven American runners passed the finish line in the top 10 to take first place with 17 points. The Eagles Steve Hallinan ran the 8k course in 24:43.08. The American women had three runners finish in the top 10 and won with 49 team points. Alyssa Lotmore from the University of Albany finished 10 seconds ahead Zaia Wharton from American to take top medal honors.
Top runner for the Patriots, Ryan Davis finished 30th out of 64 runners on the 8,000 meter course with a time of 27:43.12. Mason's John Crain finished 37th with a time of 28:06.54. The Patriots Charles Bowles finished 45th in a time of 29:14.18. Rounding out team scores for Mason were Todd McDaniel (30:28.49) and Ryan Miller (31:59.43).
Melissa Ferry was the top finisher for the Patriot women, finishing in 32nd in a time of 16:04.10 on the 4,000 meter course. Alicia York was six seconds behind with a time of 16:10.97 in a race that featured 76 runners. Stephanie Gunter (16:50.42) and Danielle Turner (16:51.00) finished in the top 50 for the Patriots. Laura Goodman finished in a time of 17:31.87 to round out Mason's team scoring.
The women travel to the Penn State Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 15.
