NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The George Mason women's tennis team lost its opening match of the season to perennial power Old Dominion, 7-0, Friday night at the indoor courts at Center Court Racket Club.

Old Dominion captured all three doubles matches which included an 8-0 victory by the Lady Monarchs' No. 1 doubles duo of Kerstin Endlich and Fernanda Luiz over Andreea Fuseaa and Maricel Ballester. Larissa Santos and Barbara Costa earned an 8-3 win over Jenn Dektas and Jamie Delorie at No. 2 doubles, while Barbara Kerner and Linda Garder rounded out doubles action defeating the Patriots' Katie Sloper and Melissa Wooten, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles.

The Monarchs captured all six singles matches in straight sets. Other winners included Kerstin Endlich at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mason's Andreea Fusea and Larissa Santos at No. 2 doubles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Maricel Ballester. Fernanda Luiz and Barbara Costa both won their matches by the score of 6-2, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Luiz downed Jenn Dektas, while Costa defeated Jamie Delorie at No. 4 singles. Linda Garder concluded singles play with a win over Melissa Wooten, 6-2, 6-0.

The tennis team returns to action next weekend at Virginia and at the VCU 4-1 Invitational.
