Fairfax, Va.--Mason's swimming & diving teams remained perfect in conference dual meet competition as the men's and women's team defeated Towson Saturday afternoon at the Aquatic & Fitness Center. The Patriot women (6-2, 6-0 CAA) defeated the Tigers (6-2, 3-2) by a score of 138-105 and the men (6-1, 6-0) claimed a 156-85 victory over Towson (3-5, 2-3).
Towson finished in first in the first five events for 45 points, but Mason's women's team responded and went on to garner first place finishes in the next six events to help solidify the Patriots sixth CAA win of the season.
Mason had a strong showing on the boards Saturday afternoon as the Patriots placed in the top-2 in the 1-meter event and the top-3 in the 3-meter. Mary Campioli won both events as she collected 288.97 points in the 1-meter and 275.50 in the 3-meter, while Colleen Flack placed second in both events. Amanda Fielding earned points in both events for Mason, but finished third in the 3-meter with a score of 270.60.
On the men's side, Mason collected 11 first place finishes to Towson's two. Four different Patriots earned two first place finishes against the Tigers in Eric Wellington, Tom Koucheravy Tim Norton and John Appleman.
Wellington won both the 50-yard free (21.93) and the 100-free (47.98), while Koucheravy placed first in the 500 free (4:44.29) and the 1,650 free (15:44.92). Tim Norton collected 18 points for Mason with his first place finishes in the 200 back (1:54.91) and the 400 IM (4:02.69), while Appleman won both diving events with a score of 252.37 in the 1-meter and 282.07 in the 3-meter.
The Patriots will return to action when both teams travel to Harrisonburg to face James Madison on Jan. 22 at 1 p.m.
