Swimming & Diving Teams Defeat Howard

Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University swept Howard Friday afternoon in swimming & diving competition at the Aquatic and Fitness Center as the men's team defeated the Bisons by a score of 116.5-52.5, while the women garnered a 123-47 victory.

The Patriots collected eight first place finishes for the men, including two for both Matt McGillicuddy and Joe Houchin. McGillicuddy swam the 50-yard backstroke in 26.17 to tie Howard's Joshwin Hall for first and also placed first in the 200-yard IM (2:01.94). Houchin claimed first place finishes in both the 100 free (48:21) and the 200 free (1:44.67).

On the women's side, Mason claimed seven first place finishes to Howard's two. Mary Campioli finished ahead of the competition in the one-meter diving event with 274.05 points, while Justine Blaho claimed the 50-yard free title in a time of 25.36. In addition, Mason's 200 medley relay team of Blaho, Lexi Hatfield, Rebecca Jimenez and Molly O'Shea finished first with a time of 1:54.18.

The Patriots will return to action when they host Towson on Saturday (Jan. 15) at the Aquatic and Fitness Center at 1 p.m.
