The George Mason men's and women's cross country team traveled to the George Washington Invitational at Centreville, Va. on Saturday as the men competed in a seven-team field while the women competed in a 10-team field.
The men's team was paced by Dennis Moriarty who was 20th overall with a time of 28:18. He was followed less than a minute later by Ricardo Cunningham, who was 32nd with a time of 29:00. Ryan Davis was 37th, crossing the line in 29:16.
Also scoring for the men's team were Charles Bowles, who was 53rd in a time of 30:43, and Ben Sommers, who was 56th, finishing the course in 31:04. The Patriots were seventh as a team.
The women's team was paced by a pair of veterans. Senior Ryann Holmes was the team's top finisher, coming in 26th overall with a time of 20:37. She wasn't too far ahead of freshman Melissa Ferry, who was 37th overall with a time of 20:52. Senior Sara Hines was the team's third finisher with a time of 21:09. She was 48th overall.
The other Patriots who scored at the meet were Alicia York, who was 61st with a time of 21:46 and Erika Woodworth, who was tied for 73rd in 22:16. Woodworth tied with teammate Julia Gaudet. Also running for the Patriots were Meghan Millar and Jessica Young, who finished in 22:59 and 23:00, respectively. The Patriots finished ninth as a team.
The Patriots next compete on Saturday, October 2, when they host the Mason Invitational.
