Aug. 25, 2004

With his George Mason baseball career only recently ended, former shortstop Jeff Palumbo is wasting no time making his mark in professional baseball. While still at the low end of minor league baseball, Palumbo has been performed well enough in his rookie season to earn a spot in the Northwest League All-Star Game, held earlier this month. Palumbo was one of five members of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes to play in the mid-season event, and he was 1 for 3 in the game. For the season, Palumbo is hitting .292 with 60 hits in 213 at-bats. He is third on the team in hits and his 28 walks are the second-highest on the Volcanoes. Palumbo is the only player on his team with more walks than strikeouts (minimum 200 at-bats). The Volcanoes are currently six games out of first in the West Division of the Northwest League with 12 games remaining. The season ends on Sunday, September 5.
