Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's head softball coach Beth Fulcher has announced that three student-athletes have committed to play for the 2004-05 Patriot softball team.
The athletes include Jenna Cooksey (UT; Bowie, Md./St. John's College HS), Lindsay Cox (3B; Chesapeake, Va./Greenbrier Christian Academy) and Emily Miller (C; Springfield, Va./West Springfield).
Jenna Cooksey; Utility
Earned four varsity letters in softball at St. John's College HS...voted all-WCAC all four years and earned first team honors for two seasons...led St. John's in batting average and on base percentage last three years...captain senior season...was a member of the National Honor Society...graduated with honors...received the President's Award for Educational Excellence.
"Jenna is a spark plug, plain and simple," said Fulcher. "She has a lot of speed and should reek havoc on the base paths."
Lindsay Cox; Third Base
Named to the second team all-district honors junior year...earned honorable mention in 2001 and 2002...named MVP 2001-03...state champion senior year...earned the VHSL Academic Award for having a GPA of 3.0 or better 2001-03.
"I have confidence in Lindsay that she will work hard to be solid at the third base position and we will be a better team because of Lindsay," said Fulcher.
Emily Miller; Catcher
Earned four varsity letters in both softball and volleyball at West Springfield...received The Washington Post All-Met honorable mention honor senior year...was on the Patriot All-District First Team in 2004...named captain senior season...garnered a .550 batting average and a .800 slugging percentage in her final year at West Springfield...team won a district championship both sophomore and junior seasons...named 'Top Performer' by The Washington Post in 2004...holds the record at her high school for most service aces...plays summer softball with the 18U VA Patriots, which won the NSA Super World Series (2002).
"Emily should compete for playing time behind the plate this season, said Fulcher. "She is a very good athlete and we are extremely pleased that she chose to attend George Mason."
