FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason University golfer Craig Mason (Lorton, VA/Hayfield) was named to the Division I PING Mid-Atlantic All-Region team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The event honors the top student-athletes in college golf.

Mason, who is the first Patriot athlete ever named All-Region, garners the honor for the third consecutive season after also being named All-Region following the 2002 and 2003 seasons. He joins 14 other athletes from several schools in the Mid-Atlantic region to make up the 15-man squad.

The junior led George Mason with a combined 73.1 stroke average over the fall and spring seasons, finishing in the top 10 in four of the 11 tournaments he entered. He was also Mason's top golfer in eight of the 11 events.

His best finish this season was a third place out of 93 individuals at the Pirate Fall Intercollegiate, held October 20-21 in Greenville, N.C, where he fired a 70-73-75=218 total. Mason participated in every tournament for George Mason, completing 28 rounds. Both his fall and spring averages were tops for the Patriots.

Mason has been the Patriots top golfer over his four year career. He was selected to the golf All-CAA second team in his freshman and junior seasons and made the first team as a sophomore and senior. He has won four individual titles since donning the Green and Golf and has placed in the top 10 in 19-of-41 tournaments.

The George Mason golf team participated in 11 tournaments during the 2003-04 fall and spring seasons, including the CAA Championship in late spring. Mason's best finish was third place out of 18 teams at the Pirate Fall Intercollegiate. The Patriots never placed worse than 14th in a tournament, landing in the top 10 nine of the 11 tournaments
