COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland got five goals from senior Kelly Coppedge on Senior Day as the No. 3 Maryland Terrapins defeated No. 20 George Mason 13-9 Sunday afternoon at Ludwig Field. In a close game for most of the afternoon, the Terps rattled off six unanswered goals in the middle of the second half to secure the victory in the final regular season game for both teams.

George Mason concludes its season with a 7-10 overall mark, while Maryland improves to 14-4 on the year.

Junior attacker Tracy Waterson (Niskayuna, NY) paced the Patriots with three goals and an assist. Freshman midfielder Melissa Venturi (Sewell, NJ) recorded two goals, as did senior midfielder Lisa Hagan (Collingswood, NJ). Junior Acacia Walker scored four points on one goal and three assists, and senior Annie Collins tallied two goals and one assist for three points to help pace the Maryland offense.

The Terps took the early lead on goals from Jessica Dorney and Walker. The Patriots countered, though, scoring the game's next three goals to take the lead. Venturi, sophomore attacker Sarah Bryant (Fairfax Station, VA), and junior midfielder Brandi Evans (Fort Howard, MD) each found the back of the net for Mason.

Trailing 4-3 with 8:02 left in the game, Coppedge connected on three straight goals for the Terps, all on assists from Walker to give Maryland a 6-4 lead. The Patriots cut the deficit to one with 15 seconds remaining in the half on a goal from Hagan, giving UMCP a 6-5 advantage at halftime.

The Patriots came out of the locker room and added two more scores behind Venturi and Waterson to go in front 7-6 with 22:41 left. But, Maryland put on a 6-0 run over the next 14 minutes to take a commanding 12-7 lead. Collins and Coppedge helped key the run with a pair of goals each.

Waterson ended the Patriot slide with a free position goal - her third of the contest - at 5:01 to make the score 12-8. Hagan scored unassisted to trim the margin to 12-9, but Maryland netted the final tally with 52 seconds remaining to earn the final 13-9 win.

During the run, the Terps dominated possession as Coppedge was credited with a game-high six draws on the day and Annie Collins tallied four, as the Terps won 17 of 24 draw controls. Senior midfielder Stacy Berger (Baltimore, MD) nabbed four of Mason's seven draw controls.

Junior goalkeeper Meg Dentler (Crofton, MD) kept Mason in the game, posting 20 saves. Terps keeper Kirah Miles stopped six shots. Maryland out shot George Mason 40-22 and had 24 fouls compared to eight for the Patriots.
