Richard Phillips and Ricardo Melbourne accomplished what they needed to on Friday at the NCAA East Regional as they each advanced to the finals and kept alive the hope of competing at the NCAA Championships.
Phillips was the top qualifier in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 13.5 seconds. Melbourne was the sixth qualifier with a time of 13.73. They will compete in the finals on Saturday at 6:40 p.m. For Phillips, it will be a busy 75 minutes as he will also compete in the 200-meters at 7:50 p.m. Phillips qualified fifth for the finals with a time of 20.79 seconds. He was .30 seconds behind the top qualifying time.
Quentin Matthews was scratched from the high jump while Marc Kellman and Ryan McCoy will compete in the triple jump on Saturday at 6 p.m.
On the women's side, the times and distances weren't enough to keep any competitors alive. Sheena Davidson was 11th in the 400-meters with a time of 53.31 seconds and Alycia Williams was 15th in the same event with a time of 53.75 seconds. Kim Morgan competed in the long jump where she was 30th with a jump of 5.52 meters and the 4X100-meter relay team of Kim Morgan, Corri Allen, Alycia Williams and Alyce Williams finished 13th with a time of 45.90 seconds. Sheena Goss was scratched from the 800-meters.
Alyce Williams will compete in the triple jump on Saturday at 6 p.m. while Nichole Brown will take part in the high jump at 1 p.m. The 4X400-meter team of Davidson, Paula Bailey, Alyce Williams and Alycia Williams will compete at 9 p.m. on Saturday.
