FAIRFAX, Va. - For the second consecutive season, George Mason will have two players participate in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) North/South Senior All-Star game. Patriot standouts Stacy Berger (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) and Lisa Hagan (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) will represent Mason on the South team, teaming up with 22 of the most talented senior players in women's lacrosse.
Berger had a phenomenal finish to her Mason career. A defensive midfielder, she was a two-time co-captain for the Patriots and was a starter for three straight seasons. She concluded the year with single-season bests in goals scored (19) and points (23), which ranked fifth on the team, added four assists and shot 41.7 percent from the field.
A pivotal presence both on offense and defense, Berger collected 29 ground balls, caused 19 turnovers and ranked second on the squad with 23 draw controls. A 2004 first-team all-Colonial Athletic Association honoree, she stepped up when the team needed her most, recording a career-best four goals in a must-win game against Hofstra on Apr. 18 and scoring the game-tying goal against then-No. 8 James Madison on Apr. 21, which sent that regular season contest into overtime. She received her first-ever CAA Player of the Week honor on Apr. 19 after netting seven goals on eight shots in three games.
Hagan, a midfielder and 2004 team co-captain, garnered second team all-CAA honors for the fourth straight year. She started every game this season and led George Mason in assists with 17. She concluded the year ranked second in points (37), totaled 20 goals and was eighth in the league in assists per game.
Hagan, who owns the Patriot record for career assists (78) and is second overall in points scored (152), started 68 consecutive games in a Mason uniform, breaking the Patriot record for consecutive games started and consecutive games played previously held by two-time IWLCA All-American Jill Toomey (2000-03). Hagan, who also contributed 31 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers and 15 draw controls, finished her career ranked in the Patriot top 10 in five major statistical categories.
George Mason ended its season with a 7-10 overall record and a No. 19 ranking in the IWLCA Top 20 national poll. The Patriots tied for third in the league standings at 4-3 and were the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament. Mason had five players named to the all-CAA first and second teams.
The North/South Senior All-Star game will be held at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) in Baltimore, MD Saturday, June 5 at 3 p.m.
